Starting to get really annoyed by all these people saying Messi “sucks” and is “overrated” after Sunday’s game. As a Real Madrid & Brasil NT fan I’m clearly one of the last people who would root for Messi on a club or a national level. Still, it cannot be denied that aside from being an incredible player he is also very humble despite everyone dick riding him all the time. The only reason anyone could ever possibly say he is “overrated” or “sucks” is because his playing has been so great that it has generated very high expectations.
To compare him to Maradona makes sense, as both are exceptionally skilled Argentine players, but it also tends to ignore the timeline of each of these players, which have been extremely different. As amazing as Maradona is, at 25 he did not have the same success as Messi. I cannot imagine all the pressure Messi had riding on making that one goal—pressure that I do not believe Maradona had in the ‘86 world cup.
Anyone can say he “sucks” but in reality he is already a legend, and already at Maradona’s level even if he didn’t bring home the cup. I don’t even need to include all his awards and successes as I’m sure even those who don’t follow futbol know the statistics by now.
It’s funny also that most of the statuses I see bashing Messi are the very same people who only watch futbol during the World Cup and probably still don’t know what offsides are. Kindly go back to watching baseball and stop acting like you have any idea what you’re talking about.
